SpamExperts is being retired
SpamExperts spam filtering is being withdrawn. Inbound mail is now filtered by MailScanner and SpamAssassin, with nothing for you to configure.
SpamExperts is being withdrawn as WebGee's inbound spam filtering service. Inbound mail is now filtered by MailScanner and SpamAssassin, which runs on the mail servers themselves.
There is nothing you need to configure. Filtering applies to every mailbox automatically — no MX record changes, no separate control panel, no per-domain enablement.
This page replaces fourteen separate SpamExperts articles. If you followed a link or a bookmark to one of them, this is where it now leads.
What changes for you
| Previously, in SpamExperts | Now |
|---|---|
| Enable filtering per domain | Automatic on every mailbox |
| Point MX records at SpamExperts | MX records point at WebGee mail servers |
| Check the SpamExperts quarantine | Suspected spam arrives tagged {Spam?} in your inbox |
| Quarantine digest emails | Not applicable — nothing is quarantined |
| Whitelist and blacklist in SpamExperts | Filter on the {Spam?} tag in your mail client |
| Separate SpamExperts login | Not applicable |
The most visible difference: mail that is probably spam is delivered to you
with {Spam?} added to its subject line, rather than being held in a quarantine
you have to check. Mail that is almost certainly spam is rejected outright and
never delivered.
What you should do
- Remove any SpamExperts MX records still on your domains. Your MX records should point at WebGee's mail servers — see Configure email routing in cPanel.
- Recreate your rules locally. Whitelists and blacklists held in
SpamExperts do not carry over. Filter on the
{Spam?}subject tag in your mail client, or in webmail under Filters. - Check your quarantine before access ends if you have not already, in case something legitimate is sitting in it.
How filtering works now
See Spam and virus filtering for what is
scanned, what the {Spam?} and {Disarmed} subject tags mean, and which
attachment types are blocked.
For per-domain tuning of SpamAssassin thresholds, see Configure MailScanner in cPanel.
If legitimate mail is being tagged as spam
That is now handled entirely differently — see Why are my emails being marked as spam?.
