Get the full headers of an email
Find the raw headers of a message in webmail, Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird — what support needs to trace a delivery problem.
Retrieve the full technical headers of a message. Applies to every WebGee mailbox.
Headers record every server a message passed through, the results of SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks, and any spam score assigned. If you open a ticket about mail that did not arrive or was wrongly filtered, this is what we need — the message body on its own rarely tells us anything.
WebGee webmail
- Sign in to webmail.
- Open the message.
- Select the ⋮ menu, then View Source.
Gmail
- Open the message.
- Select the ⋮ menu at the top right of the message.
- Select Show original. Headers appear at the top of a new tab.
Outlook on the web
- Open the message.
- Select the ⋯ menu at the top right of the message.
- Select View message source.
Outlook for Windows
- Double-click the message so it opens in its own window.
- Select File → Properties.
- The headers are in the Internet headers box at the bottom. Select the text and copy it.
Apple Mail
- Select the message.
- Select View → Message → All Headers, or press ⇧⌘H.
Thunderbird
- Select the message.
- Select View → Message Source, or press ⌘U / Ctrl+U.
What to send us
Send the whole header block, not a summary or a screenshot of part of it. The lines that usually matter are:
| Header | What it tells us |
|---|---|
Received: | Every server the message passed through, newest first |
Authentication-Results: | Whether SPF, DKIM and DMARC passed |
Message-ID: | Lets us find the message in our logs |
X-Spam-Score / X-Spam-Status | Why it was tagged, if it was |
Paste them as text into the ticket. A screenshot cannot be searched against our logs.
Headers contain the recipient address and the sending IP. That is fine to send to support, but do not post them publicly.
