Set up email on Android

Add your WebGee mailbox to the Gmail app or another Android mail app, with push email so messages arrive as they are sent.

Add your WebGee mailbox to an Android phone or tablet. Applies to every WebGee Workspace mailbox.

These steps use the Gmail app, which ships on most Android devices. Other mail apps follow the same pattern, and the server settings are identical.

Add your mailbox

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. Select your profile picture, then Add another account.
  3. Select Exchange and Office 365 for push email, or Other if you would rather your device check on a schedule.
  4. Enter your full email address, then select Next.
  5. Enter your mailbox password, then select Next.
  6. Accept the security prompt if your device shows one, then select Done.

Your messages begin downloading.

Exchange delivers messages the moment they arrive. Choosing Other sets up IMAP instead, which checks on a schedule and uses less battery.

Check it worked

Send yourself a message from webmail. On Exchange it should appear within a few seconds; on IMAP, at the next scheduled check.

If the account will not add

Android reports most failures as a generic "couldn't open connection". In practice it is almost always one of:

  • The password is wrong. Confirm it by signing in to webmail.
  • The address is mistyped. It must be the full address, not just the part before the @.
  • Server details were entered by hand and are wrong. Check them against Email server settings.
