Files WebGee automatically removes
WebGee periodically deletes backups, archives and old junk mail from hosting accounts to reclaim disk space. What is removed, and how to keep what matters.
WebGee runs a periodic cleanup across hosting accounts to reclaim disk space. This deletes files from your account, so it is worth knowing what is in scope. Applies to shared and reseller hosting.
Anything you cannot afford to lose should not live only in your hosting account. Keep your own copy off our infrastructure — see Download a backup of your account.
What gets removed
Backup archives
/home/*/user_backups/*/home/*/backup-*,/home/*/cpmove-*and equivalents elsewhere- Plugin backup directories, including
backupbuddy_backupsandcom_akeeba/backup - Files over 1 GB in
/root, particularlycpmove*
Large archives and media in home directories
.rar, .iso, .7z, .tar, .xen, .mkv, .avi, .VOB, .pbo, and large
.zip files.
Temporary files, caches and logs
/home/*/tmp/Cpanel_*- Compressed logs (
.gz) in/var/logand similar /usr/local/src/*/home/*/.trash/*
Old junk mail
Messages older than 30 days in .Trash, .Junk and .Spam folders.
Why
Backups in particular are the problem. Plugin-generated backups are full copies written into your own disk quota, so a handful of runs can occupy more space than the site itself. They also count towards your plan's limit, which is why Softaculous backup is disabled entirely — see Why Softaculous backups are disabled.
This list is not exhaustive
Under the fair usage policy, WebGee may remove other files that are unusually large, redundant, or a security risk. If you are storing something unusual and are unsure, ask before relying on it staying there.
How to keep what matters
- For backups, use JetBackup. It is incremental, stored outside your quota, and never touched by cleanup — see Restore from a backup.
- For a copy you keep, download it and store it elsewhere: Download a backup of your account.
- For mail you want to retain, move it out of
.Trash,.Junkand.Spam. Those folders are cleared at 30 days. - For large media, use object storage or a CDN rather than your hosting account.

Moving between WebGee servers
WebGee uses cPanel Live Transfer to move accounts between its own servers with no downtime. Request it through support — do not use the Migration Center.
