Download a backup of your account
Generate and download a full cPanel backup, or just a database or mail forwarders, so you hold a copy outside WebGee's infrastructure.
Create a backup you can download and keep yourself. Applies to shared, reseller and Premium hosting.
WebGee already backs up every account automatically — daily, or hourly on some plans — and those are restorable through JetBackup. This is different: a copy you hold, off our infrastructure, which is what you want before a major change or a migration away.
For rolling back a change you are about to make, a JetBackup snapshot is faster and needs no download — see Take a snapshot backup.
What a full backup contains
- All account files
- All databases
- Email accounts and their contents
- Mail filters and forwarders
- cPanel settings
Download a full backup
-
In cPanel, open Backup under Files.

-
Select Download a Full Website Backup.
-
Choose Home Directory as the destination.
-
Select Generate Backup.
The archive is built in the background. cPanel emails you when it is ready, then you download it from the same page.
A full backup is roughly the size of your account, and it is written into your own disk quota while it is being generated. If you are close to your limit the backup can fail, or push you over. Check cPanel → Disk Usage first, and delete the archive once you have downloaded it.
Download just part of it
The same Backup page offers partial backups, which are much smaller and faster:
- Home Directory — your files only
- MySQL Databases — one database at a time
- Email Forwarders and Email Filters
These download immediately rather than being queued.
For a database specifically, exporting from phpMyAdmin gives you more control — see Create and manage MySQL databases.
Check it worked
Open the downloaded archive locally and confirm it contains a homedir folder
and a mysql folder with a .sql file per database. An archive that is only a
few kilobytes means generation failed — usually disk space.
Restoring
A full backup downloaded this way is intended for restoring onto another cPanel server, or for handing to another host. To restore onto this account, use JetBackup instead — it is faster and does not require an upload:

Take a snapshot backup
Create an on-demand JetBackup snapshot of your cPanel account before making significant changes, and check that it completed.
Why Softaculous backups are disabled
Softaculous backup is turned off on WebGee hosting because it writes full copies into your own disk quota. Use JetBackup instead.
