Fix "Invalid Payment Method" in the reseller modules

The Elite and Domain Reseller modules require a default payment method on file, even though orders are paid from your credit balance.

Ordering through the Elite or Domain Reseller module fails with:

WHMCS local API error: Invalid Payment Method. Valid options include
banktransfer, gocardless, paypal, paypalcheckout, stripe, worldpayfuturepay

Applies to reseller accounts using those modules.

Why

The module requires a default payment method set on your WebGee profile. It is a prerequisite for using the module at all, and the order is rejected without one.

The payment method is not charged for these orders. Module orders are paid from your credit balance. The stored method exists as a fallback if something goes wrong with credit billing, so access to the modules is not interrupted while it is sorted out.

This is why the requirement is not obvious: nothing about the order suggests a card is involved, and none is charged.

Fix it

  1. Sign in to the WebGee client area.
  2. Go to Billing → Payment Methods.
  3. Add a method and set it as the default.

Any of the listed options works — bank transfer, GoCardless, PayPal, Stripe, WorldPay.

Retry the order.

Keep your credit topped up

Module orders draw on your credit balance, so an empty balance stops provisioning even with a payment method on file. Top it up under Billing → Add Funds.

If it still fails

  • The method is added but not set as default. The module reads the default specifically.
  • The credit balance is insufficient for the order.
  • The error names a different problem. The message above is specific to the payment method; anything else needs a ticket with the full response.
