Install CyberPanel

Install the CyberPanel control panel on a WebGee cloud server, on a supported OS, and secure it before putting anything live.

Install CyberPanel, an open-source control panel built on OpenLiteSpeed. Applies to VPS and dedicated servers.

This is an unmanaged installation. WebGee supports the server and the network; CyberPanel itself, its updates and its security are yours. See What server management includes.

Before you begin

  • A clean server. Install on a freshly built one — CyberPanel expects to own the machine and conflicts with existing web or mail software. See Rebuild your server.
  • A currently supported OS. AlmaLinux 8 or 9, Rocky Linux 8 or 9, or Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04 or 24.04.
  • Root access — see Connect over SSH.
  • A domain pointed at the server's IP if you intend to serve sites.

Do not install on CentOS 7 or 8, or Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04. All are end of life and receive no security updates — a panel with a public admin interface on an unpatched OS is a poor combination. Older guides still recommend these.

Install

As root:

sh <(curl https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh || wget -O - https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh)

Choose CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed for the free edition. Installation takes roughly 10–30 minutes.

The installer prints the admin URL, username and temporary password when it finishes. Save them — that output is not shown again.

First steps

  1. Sign in at https://your-server-ip:8090. The certificate warning is expected until you set a real hostname.
  2. Change the admin password immediately.
  3. Set the panel hostname and issue a certificate for it.
  4. Create your first website under Websites → Create Website.

Secure it before going live

An admin panel on a public IP is scanned continuously:

  • Change the default password, if you have not already.
  • Restrict port 8090 to your own IP where you can.
  • Enable two-factor authentication in CyberPanel's settings.
  • Keep it updated. Nothing does this for you on an unmanaged server.
  • Set reverse DNS before sending mail — see Networking and reverse DNS.

If installation fails

  • Not a clean server. Rebuild and try again; this is the most common cause.
  • Unsupported OS version. Check against the list above.
  • Not enough memory. CyberPanel wants at least 1 GB, and more if you enable its mail stack.
