Fix "Script '26' Not Found" in WordPress Manager

What the error means when installing WordPress from the client area, and how to install successfully instead.

Script '26' Not Found appears when installing WordPress through the WordPress Manager in the client area. Applies to shared and reseller hosting on cPanel.

Script 26 is Softaculous's internal identifier for WordPress. The error means the client area asked cPanel's Softaculous installation for that script and did not get a usable answer — the installer is present but the request could not be completed.

Install through cPanel instead

The most reliable route is to bypass the client area and use Softaculous directly:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open WordPress Manager by Softaculous, or Softaculous Apps Installer.
  3. Select WordPress, then Install.

The full procedure is in Install WordPress with Softaculous.

This produces the same installation. The client area's WordPress Manager is a convenience layer over the same Softaculous instance.

If that also fails

Install WordPress manually — it does not depend on Softaculous at all. See Install WordPress manually.

Otherwise, contact support and quote the exact error. The cause is on the server side and is not something you can correct from your account.

Older guidance for this error recommended switching the cPanel account to the Paper Lantern theme. Paper Lantern was retired by cPanel and is no longer available, so that fix no longer applies.
