# Add a website
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/wordpress-cloud/add-a-website

Adding a website provisions a container, installs WordPress, issues an SSL
certificate and creates a database — typically in under a minute. Applies to all
WordPress Cloud packages.

Go to **Websites** → **Add website**, or use the **Add website** button on the
dashboard.

## Choose production or staging [#choose-production-or-staging]

<img alt="The Add website form, showing the production and staging options and the WordPress and Clone tiles" src="__img0" />

**Production website** — a live site on its own domain name. You supply the
domain; the panel prefixes `www.`

**Staging website** — a test site on WebGee's own staging domain. You supply
only the label, and the panel appends `.stg.webgee.space`.

<img alt="The staging variant of the form, with the .stg.webgee.space suffix" src="__img1" />

Production and staging sites are counted separately against your package, so a
staging site does not consume a production slot. See
[Packages and limits](/en/wordpress-cloud/packages-and-limits).

<Callout type="warn">
  A production domain must already belong to your organisation. If it does not,
  the panel refuses with **Unable to create website outside of the org** and
  nothing is created. Add the domain to your organisation first, then create the
  website.
</Callout>

## Choose what to install [#choose-what-to-install]

**Add WordPress site** installs a fresh copy of WordPress.

**Clone a website** copies an existing site. It stays greyed out until you have
at least one website to clone from, so it is never available on your first site.

## Fill in the WordPress admin account [#fill-in-the-wordpress-admin-account]

<img alt="The WordPress admin account section of the Add website form" src="__img2" />

These become the WordPress administrator, not your panel login.

* **Username** and **Email address** — used for the WordPress account.
* **Password** — must contain a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a number
  and a special character, and be at least 10 characters. The key icon between
  the two password fields generates one that satisfies all of these; the eye
  icon reveals what it produced so you can record it.

Record the password before submitting. The panel does not show it again, though
you will rarely need it — [single sign-on](/en/wordpress-cloud/wordpress-toolkit)
logs you into `wp-admin` without it.

## Create it [#create-it]

Select **Add**. The panel shows live progress while it downloads and installs
WordPress.

## What you get [#what-you-get]

<img alt="The site overview for a production site, showing the nameserver banner" src="__img4" />

The site overview lists the installed application, quick links and an **At a
glance** panel.

A production site opens with a banner telling you which nameservers to set at
your domain registrar — `lara.webgee.cloud` and `kate.webgee.cloud`. Until you
do, the site exists but no visitor reaches it. Staging sites skip this, because
they run on WebGee's own domain.

| Field                              | Meaning                                            |
| ---------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| **Webserver**                      | OpenLiteSpeed                                      |
| **Home dir** | The container path, `/var/www/` plus the site's ID |
| **PHP version** | The version this site runs — see below |
| **Website / Database / Mail IPv4** | The addresses your DNS records point at |
| **Created at**                     | Provisioning timestamp                             |
| **Collaborators** | People granted access to this site specifically |

Alongside it, **Quick links** gives you **Restart container**, **phpMyAdmin**,
**Download** and **Upload backup**.

<Callout type="warn">
  New sites are provisioned on **PHP 8.1**, which is past end of life. Unless
  your theme or plugins require it, raise this to a supported release under
  **Advanced** → **Developer tools**. See
  [PHP versions and settings](/en/wordpress-cloud/php-settings).
</Callout>

## Verify [#verify]

* The site loads over `https://` — the padlock beside the domain name in the
  panel confirms the certificate was issued.
* **Apps** lists WordPress with a version number.
* **Backups** is empty, which is expected. Take
  [your first backup](/en/wordpress-cloud/backups-and-restore) before you start
  building.
