# Grant WebGee support access to your server
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/servers/support-access-key

Give the WebGee support team temporary SSH access to your VPS or dedicated
server, so we can investigate without you sharing your root password. Applies to
all unmanaged VPS and dedicated servers.

You control this entirely: the key goes on when you add it and comes off when
you remove it.

## Add the support key [#add-the-support-key]

Run this as root on the server:

```bash
wget -qO- https://security.webgee.com/support-key.sh | bash -s -- add
```

Then tell us on your ticket that the key is installed.

## Check whether it is installed [#check-whether-it-is-installed]

```bash
wget -qO- https://security.webgee.com/support-key.sh | bash -s -- check
```

## Remove it [#remove-it]

Run this once your ticket is resolved:

```bash
wget -qO- https://security.webgee.com/support-key.sh | bash -s -- remove
```

<Callout type="warn">
  Remove the key when you no longer need support. Leaving it installed
  indefinitely is an unnecessary standing grant — and if you later cancel the
  service, remove it before you hand the server on to anyone else.
</Callout>

## If the command fails [#if-the-command-fails]

* **`wget: command not found`** — install it (`apt install wget` or
  `dnf install wget`), or substitute `curl -fsSL <url> | bash -s -- add`.
* **`Permission denied`** — the script must run as root. Prefix it with `sudo`,
  or switch user with `su -` first.
* **The download times out** — the server's outbound firewall is blocking
  HTTPS to `security.webgee.com`. Check with
  `curl -sI https://security.webgee.com`.
