# What running a hosting business involves
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/reseller/reseller-hosting-responsibilities-and-considerations

Reseller hosting lets you sell hosting under your own brand. It is a business
rather than a one-click product, and some technical grounding is necessary.

## Where the line falls [#where-the-line-falls]

| | WebGee | You |
| ----------------------------- | ------ | --- |
| Server hardware and network | ✔ | |
| Platform updates and security | ✔ | |
| Support to **you** | ✔ | |
| Support to **your clients** | | ✔ |
| Billing and invoicing | | ✔ |
| Your website and brand | | ✔ |
| Account provisioning | | ✔ |

<Callout type="warn">
**Your clients are yours.** WebGee supports you, not them. They should never be
directed to WebGee support — we have no relationship with them, no way to
verify them, and no visibility of your billing.

Budget for answering their questions yourself, including at inconvenient hours.
This is the part most often underestimated.

## The two systems you need [#the-two-systems-you-need]

**A website** — what you sell, your pricing, your terms.

**A client area** — where customers order, pay, and open tickets. WHMCS is the
usual choice and is included with reseller plans — see
[Install WHMCS](/en/reseller/softaculous-how-do-i-install-whmcs).

They are separate things and both are needed. A website with no client area
means manual invoicing and manual provisioning.

## What to have in place before selling [#what-to-have-in-place-before-selling]

**Custom nameservers**, so clients see your brand —
[Create custom nameservers](/en/domains-dns/how-do-i-create-custom-nameservers).

**Terms of service and an acceptable use policy.** You are responsible for what
your clients host. WebGee's terms apply to you regardless of who put the content
there.

**A support process**, even if that is one inbox. Decide your hours and publish
them.

**A backup position.** WebGee backs up the server; deciding what you promise
clients, and testing that you can deliver it, is yours — see
[Restore from a backup](/en/backups/jetbackup-how-to-restore-your-account-files-or-databases).

**Realistic packages.** Limits must fit within your plan's total, or the packages
will not be created at all.

## Things worth knowing early [#things-worth-knowing-early]

* **One client can affect the others.** They share your plan's resources — see
  [CloudLinux and LVE limits explained](/en/performance/understanding-cloudlinux-and-lve-limits-enhancing-server-stability-and-performan).
* **Abuse is attributed to you.** A client's compromised site is your problem to
  resolve.
* **Migrations take time.** Every client you win brings a site to move.
* **Secondary plans are discounted**, which makes
  [selling in multiple regions](/en/reseller/how-do-i-re-sell-hosting-in-multiple-countries-locations)
  workable.
