# Dedicated IP addresses
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/reseller/dedicated-ip-address-how-to-purchase-and-manage-your-dedicated-ips

Order and assign a dedicated IP address. Applies to cPanel shared, Premium and
reseller hosting on UK infrastructure.

<Callout type="warn">
  **A dedicated IP will not improve email deliverability.** Outbound mail is
  routed through a dedicated relay regardless of the IP assigned to your
  account, so it does not affect sending reputation at all — see
  [How outbound mail is relayed](/en/email/outbound-mail-relay).

  This is the most common reason people buy one, and it does not work. If mail is
  the problem, see
  [Why are my emails being marked as spam?](/en/email/why-are-my-emails-being-marked-as-spam)
  and [Publish a DMARC record](/en/email/publishing-dmarc-records-on-your-cpanel-domain).
</Callout>

## What it is actually useful for [#what-it-is-actually-useful-for]

**Access lists.** A third party — a payment gateway, an API, a client's firewall
— needs to allow your traffic by IP, and a shared IP changes what else is behind
it.

**Isolation from neighbours.** Your site is not sharing an address with sites you
do not control. Relevant if a neighbour's behaviour has previously caused you a
reputational problem.

**Specific software requirements.** Some applications and certificates
historically required one, though modern SSL does not.

## Availability [#availability]

* **UK infrastructure only.**
* **cPanel services only** — shared, Premium or reseller. Not VPS or dedicated
  servers, which already have their own.

## Order one [#order-one]

From the WebGee client area, against the service you want it on.

## Assign it [#assign-it]

Once provisioned, assign it in **WHM → Change Site's IP Address** on a reseller
plan.

<Callout type="info">
  One dedicated IP **cannot be shared between services**. It belongs to the
  service it was bought for.

  Within a single service it **can** be assigned to several accounts — so one IP
  on a reseller plan can cover multiple client accounts under it.
</Callout>

## Check it worked [#check-it-worked]

```bash
dig +short example.com
```

It should return your dedicated address rather than the shared one.
