# Memcached is no longer available
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/performance/how-do-i-enable-memcached-object-cache-for-litespeed

Memcached is no longer available on WebGee shared and reseller hosting. The PHP
`memcached` extension and the LSMCD service were both retired, and there is
nothing to enable.

**Use [Redis object caching](/en/performance/redis-object-caching-lscache)
instead.** It delivers the same benefit — caching database query results in
memory so WordPress and Magento stop repeating them — with better stability, and
it is what the platform supports today.

## If your site is still configured for Memcached [#if-your-site-is-still-configured-for-memcached]

A site left pointing at Memcached is not caching at all. It is not broken, but
it is doing the full set of database queries on every page load, which is
exactly the cost object caching exists to avoid.

Switch it over:

1. Enable Redis and the PHP extension by following
   [Enable Redis object caching](/en/performance/redis-object-caching-lscache).
2. In WordPress, go to **LiteSpeed Cache → Cache → Object**.
3. Change **Method** from `Memcached` to `Redis`.
4. Set **Host** to `127.0.0.1`, and enter the port and password from
   **cPanel → Redis**.
5. Select **Save**, then confirm the connection status reads **Passed**.

<Callout type="info">
An earlier version of this article described enabling Memcached through the
LSMCD User Manager, and stated that Redis was not supported on shared hosting.
Both statements are now wrong. If you configured Memcached following those
instructions, use the steps above to move to Redis.
