# Fix "Your IP address has changed"
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/hosting/your-ip-address-has-changed-please-log-in-again-cpanel

cPanel or webmail signs you out with:

```
Your IP address has changed. Please log in again.
```

Applies to shared, reseller and Premium hosting.

## Why it happens [#why-it-happens]

cPanel ties each session to the IP address it was created from. If your address
changes mid-session, the session no longer matches and is ended.

This is a security measure — it prevents a stolen session cookie being used from
somewhere else — and it is doing its job. The problem is that some connections
change address frequently:

* **Mobile data**, especially when moving between masts
* **Short DHCP leases** from some ISPs
* **A VPN** reconnecting or switching endpoint
* **A network switching between IPv4 and IPv6**

## What to do [#what-to-do]

**Sign in again.** For an occasional interruption this is the whole answer.

**On mobile, use Wi-Fi for longer sessions.** Mobile addresses change most.

**Turn off any VPN** while working in cPanel, or pin it to a single endpoint.

**Work in shorter sessions.** Long editing sessions in File Manager are the most
likely to be interrupted, and losing unsaved work is the real cost.

<Callout type="info">
  Editing files directly in File Manager is where this hurts. Use SFTP or SSH
  instead for anything more than a quick change — the connection does not depend
  on a session cookie, so an address change does not cost you your work. See
  [Upload files with FileZilla](/en/hosting/using-filezilla-to-upload-files-via-sftp-ssh-or-ftps-ssl-tls).
</Callout>

## If it happens constantly [#if-it-happens-constantly]

Every few minutes suggests something other than a normal dynamic address:

* **A VPN or proxy rotating endpoints.** Disable it and test.
* **Two connections in use at once** — a laptop on Wi-Fi and tethered
  simultaneously, switching between them.
* **A network handing out both IPv4 and IPv6** where requests alternate.

If none of those apply and it persists, open a ticket with your
[support PIN](/en/account-billing/support-pin) and the times it happened.
