# Email server settings
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/email/manual-configuration

Server names, ports and encryption settings for WebGee Workspace mailboxes. Use
these when a mail app cannot detect its own settings, or when you are setting up
an account by hand.

Most mail apps find these automatically — you usually only need your full email
address and mailbox password. See
[Set up email on Mac and iPhone](/en/email/apple-macos-ios),
[Set up email on Android](/en/email/android) or
[Set up email in eM Client](/en/email/em-client).

## Incoming mail [#incoming-mail]

Choose IMAP if you read mail on more than one device, which is almost always the
right answer. POP3 downloads messages to a single device and removes them from
the server.

| Protocol | Encryption | Server | Port |
| -------- | ---------- | ----------------- | ---- |
| IMAP | SSL/TLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 993 |
| IMAP | STARTTLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 143 |
| POP3 | SSL/TLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 995 |
| POP3 | STARTTLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 110 |

## Outgoing mail [#outgoing-mail]

| Protocol | Encryption | Server | Port |
| -------- | ---------- | ----------------- | ---- |
| SMTP | SSL/TLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 465 |
| SMTP | STARTTLS | `mail.webgee.com` | 587 |

Outgoing mail always requires authentication. Use the same username and password
as your incoming mail.

## Username and password [#username-and-password]

* **Username** — your full email address, including the domain.
* **Password** — your mailbox password, which is not your WebGee account
  password.

Set the authentication method to **Normal password** or **Plain**, whichever your
app calls it.

<Callout type="info">
"Plain" sounds insecure but is not. The connection is encrypted by TLS before
authentication begins, and the server refuses to authenticate over an
unencrypted connection at all — so your password is never sent in the clear.
</Callout>

## Calendars and contacts [#calendars-and-contacts]

WebGee Workspace serves calendars over CalDAV and contacts over CardDAV. Replace
`you@example.com` with your own address:

| Type | URL |
| ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| CalDAV | `https://webmail.webgee.com/SOGo/dav/you@example.com/Calendar/personal/` |
| CardDAV | `https://webmail.webgee.com/SOGo/dav/you@example.com/Contacts/personal/` |

Some apps want the account root instead of a specific collection. Use
`https://webmail.webgee.com/SOGo/dav/` and let the app discover what is there.

To find the exact URL of a calendar you have created yourself, open
[webmail](https://webmail.webgee.com), go to **Calendar**, and copy the link from
the calendar's properties.

## Check it worked [#check-it-worked]

Send yourself a message from [webmail](https://webmail.webgee.com) and confirm it
arrives, then reply to it from your mail app and confirm the reply arrives too.
That exercises incoming and outgoing separately, which tells you which half to
look at if something is wrong.
