# Change a mailbox password or quota
Source: https://docs.webgee.com/en/email/how-to-change-your-email-account-password-or-mailbox-quota-in-cpanel

Both are done from the same screen in cPanel. Applies to shared, reseller and
cPanel hosting.

To reach cPanel: sign in directly, or go to the client area →
**Services** → **My Services** and select **Launch cPanel** beside your plan.

## Change the password [#change-the-password]

1. In cPanel, open **Email Accounts** in the **Email** section.
2. Select **Manage** beside the address.
3. Enter the new password under **New Password**. The eye icon reveals what you
have typed; **Generate** creates a strong password, and the arrow beside it
sets the length and character types.
4. Select **Update Email Settings**.

Use **Generate** rather than inventing a password. Mailbox passwords are
attacked continuously by automated login attempts, and a compromised mailbox
leads to an
[outbound block](/en/email/understanding-and-resolving-the-550-5-7-1-esa-sender-blocked-error).

<Callout type="warn">
Changing the password signs out every device using that mailbox. Update your
phone, your desktop mail app and any application that sends through SMTP, or
they will keep retrying with the old password and can trigger a login-failure
  block.
</Callout>

## Change the quota [#change-the-quota]

1. In cPanel, open **Email Accounts**.
2. Select **Manage** beside the address.
3. Change **Storage Space**, or set it to unlimited.
4. Select **Update Email Settings**.

Mailbox storage counts towards your **account's total disk allowance**, so
setting a mailbox to unlimited does not create space — it only removes the
per-mailbox ceiling. Fair usage limits still apply; see
[Email storage limits](/en/email/how-much-email-storage-space-is-permitted-on-the-shared-or-reseller-plans).

## If a mailbox is full [#if-a-mailbox-is-full]

Raising the quota is the quick fix, not the right one. To recover space:

* Have the user delete large messages from their mail app or webmail, then empty
Trash — mail stays on disk until Trash is emptied.
* Use **Email Disk Usage** in cPanel to find and remove old messages in bulk,
  filtered by age or size.

## Verify [#verify]

* Signing in to webmail with the new password succeeds.
* **Email Accounts** shows the new quota and current usage.
